Contraception is a common reason for attending primary care. The approach to managing contraception is a rapidly expanding area bearing in mind the different treatments available as well as the requirement for emergency contraception. As a consequence many of the issues of contraception are now covered in Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF). This resource is based on typical clinical scenarios with which the user will be very familiar.

Aims and Objectives

On completion of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the various types of contraceptives available.
  • Appreciate the appropriate use of a variety of commonly used contraceptives.
  • Appreciate the contra-indications and drawbacks associated with the use of commonly used contraceptives.
